Cooperations with schools and educational projects

Our partner school for teacher education and school development projects is the Carl-von-Ossietzky Gemeinschaftsschule in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

In 2018, the Fachdidaktik Englisch started an involvement with the Hands-up Project. Hands-up engages in online storytelling and English language learning with Palestinian and Syrian Children in Gaza, the West Bank and Jordan. Our contribution to the project is our annual participation as jury members in the remote-theatre contest. Read up on the winners of the 2019 contest.

Starting in August 2022, the school development project “Join the debate!” invites EFL teachers in Berlin to try out the debating method in order to foster their learners’ argumentative competences, as part of an education for democratic citizenship.

The 3-year project will be organized in three loops: 1) qualification of teachers as debating coaches, 2) implementation of debating units in foreign language classrooms, 3) sustainable integration of debating into the school structure/curriculum.

The project is coordinated by Martina Kaltenbacher (former EFL teacher and Fachseminarleiterin) and Dr. Katrin Schultze (English Language Education, HU Berlin), in cooperation with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. Among its supporters are the Senatsverwaltung für Bildung, Jugend and Familie and the Freie Universität Berlin (Prof. Sabine Achour, Arbeitsschwerpunkt Politikdidaktik und Politische Bildung).
