Charlotte Alex holds a B.A. in English from the Humboldt University of Berlin and an M.A. in Comparative Literature from the Free University of Berlin. Her PhD dissertation explores how contemporary literature navigates changing notions of care (work) and the domestic in an increasingly economized, neoliberal society. She considers how different types of care, such as domestic work, emotional labour, and institutionalised care, and their economic implications influence literary representations of transactional and familial relationships. In understanding care, literature, and the economy as deeply connected, she wants to understand how capitalism's crisis of care is translocated into narrative, and how fiction may offer alternatives to this crisis.

Her favourite book: The Ascent of Rum Doodle (1956) by W.E. Bowman
