Kindinger Homepage.JPGAs of April 2019, Evangelia Kindinger is Junior Professor for American Literature and Culture at the Department of English and American Studies at Humboldt-Universität in Berlin. She moved to Berlin from Bochum, where she worked and taught in the Department of English and American Studies at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, which is also where she completed her Ph.D. in 2012. In 2003/04, she was a Foreign Fellow at Mt. Holyoke College (MA); in 2009/10 she was invited as a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University (NY) and California State University in Sacramento. In her first monograph she dealt with the motif of “return” in diaspora literature, particularly Greek American memoirs. It was published by Winter Verlag in 2015, entitled Homebound: Diaspora Spaces and Selves in Greek American Return Narratives. Since then, she has published two edited collections, After the Storm: The Cultural Politics of Hurricane Katrina with Simon Dickel (transcript, 2016) and The Intersections of Whiteness with Mark Schmitt (Routledge, 2019). Her research interests are located in these areas – Southern Studies and Critical Whiteness Studies – with a particular focus on US popular culture, class and gender. In addition, she has published articles on Fat Studies, looking at fat-positive self-help books and reality tv programs that feature fat protagonists. She is co-editor of the blog Food, Fatness and Fitness: http://foodfatnessfitness.com. She is currently working on her second book, entitled: “Liminal Whiteness – Southern Rednecks, Hillbillies, and Crackers in American Culture,” which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
