After finishing my studies (British/American and Russian studies) at Potsdam University in 1979 I taught English language courses at the same university. I received my PhD from Potsdam University in 1986; the subject of my thesis was "Ernest Jones and Development of Chartist Literature". Since 1989 I have taught English literature and British cultural studies at Humboldt University Berlin. My teaching comprises courses on British cultural history as well English literature from the Early Modern period to the present. My research interests range from Early Modern British culture/literature (especially Milton) to the genesis of historical fiction. Currently I am working on a second PhD (habilitation); its subject is British historical fiction of the 1930s.
